I’m glad to be in Philadelphia this week teaching about AI-assisted genealogy. I will be sharing AI-related resources all week: Resources for the 44th IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy, Philadelphia, August 18 – 24, 2024. These resources will be updated throughout the week, so please check back. Shortcut link to this page (if you’d like to share with friends, you are invited and encouraged to pass this link along:

Saved Prompts (Custom GPTs, Projects, etc.)

Free to use! Get a feel for what a large language model can do. Once you register for a free-tier account with OpenAI, you can use these ready-made tools to experience what a large language model (in this case, GPT-4o) can do. For example, drop about anything (photograph, document, record image, e.g., birth or death certificate) into “Steve’s Item Identifier” for a long description of the item. The “Facts Extractor” and “Facts Narrator” work well together; the first extracts a list of facts from a document, and the second generates a narrative text from a list of facts (like the Extractor just created). Steve’s Photograph Analysis returns a long description of an image. Steve’s Explainer expects you to give it a long, complicated document, which it will explain to you twice, first at a middle school comprehension level, then second, at a college freshman comprehension level. Lingua Maven is a language expert, like a talking dictionary, thesaurus, writer, and editor; try this tool for any language needs.
